National Service in Wisconsin

Through all AmeriCorps programs (AmeriCorps*State and National, VISTA, NCCC and SeniorCorps) more than 14,000 people of all ages and backgrounds are helping to meet local needs, strengthen communities, and increase civic engagement through national service in Wisconsin. Serving at more than 1,500 locations throughout the state, these citizens tutor and mentor children, support veterans and military families, provide health services, restore the environment, respond to disasters, increase economic opportunity, and recruit and manage volunteers. This year, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will commit more than $21,550,000 to support Wisconsin communities through national service initiatives. Through a unique public-private partnership, this federal investment will leverage an additional $9,980,000 in other resources to strengthen community impact, build local support, and increase return on taxpayer dollars.

In 2014-2015, 26 Serve Wisconsin AmeriCorps*State programs enrolled 921 AmeriCorps members who served over 990,193 hours. These hours generated a local community value of $22.8 million dollars when using the Independent Sector calculation method. Similarly, in 2014-2015, Serve Wisconsin AmeriCorps*State programs mobilized 17,009 volunteers and generated 205,775 volunteer hours resulting in the equivalent of 4.7 million dollars in local community value. The total AmeriCorps*State program investment in 2014-2015 was 10.2 million dollars, making a $2.71 return on every dollar invested.

During the 2015-2016 program year, more than 880 individuals will participate in 26 AmeriCorps*State programs and have the opportunity to serve Wisconsin communities for up to one year.
